Anatomy of Aerial Artists: The "WHY" of Circus Training

Session 1: Aerial: It's in the Hips

When moving through the air, our core is the basis of our movement and our stability. Understanding the bio-mechanics of how the muscles and joints of the core, pelvis, and lower extremity will help you improve your flexibility, alignment, gain functional strength and prevent injury. Learn how, where, and when motion should occur to prevent injuries and progress your aerial skills

Dr. Emily Scherb is physical therapist specializing in the care, treatment, and education of circus artists. She is the author of Applied Anatomy of Aerial Arts. Emily lectures on anatomy, the bio-mechanics of circus, and injury prevention for circus artists, instructors, medical professionals and students across the country. Emily is a retired aerialist and veteran instructor. She continues to train and teach whenever she has a chance.
